Creating Spaces of Safety for Connection and Growth

Thursday, March 28, 2024 | 9:00-11:00 AM Central | Zoom-based
Co-convened by Mary Elaine Kiener and
Stephanie Glaros

As conveners, we learn to create physical and energetic fields that bring a sense of aliveness along with agreed-upon terms of agreement that foster a sense of safety and belonging for our time together.

Yet, many of us still feel a bit puzzled and self-conscious about creating containers of safety (Aspect 5 of the AoC Wheel)--either in personal or professional settings.

We cherish the safety, comfort and support that surrounds us within our beloved communities.  However, we often become much less confident in situations that feel uncomfortable--either within ourselves or with each other--as so often happens as we approach the "learning edge" of our individual and/or communal lives.  For learning--as with any change--starts from a place of finding ourselves uncomfortable with the status quo.

In this workshop, co-conveners Mary Elaine Kiener and Stephanie Glaros will invite your individual and collective embodied wisdom as we Honor, Open and Widen into "how" we (as artful conveners) can co-create containers of safety for connection AND growth.

What we'll explore together:

  • A felt sense of "safety and connection" as conveners

  • The differences between "uncomfortable" and "unsafe"

  • Artful convening through discomfort to foster new learning and growth

Meet your Co-Conveners

Mary Elaine Kiener is a transformation midwife as a listening partner for those who are awakening to their authentic life stories.  Her passion lies in exploring life’s puzzles and challenges through a process of felt-sensed listening and learning at the edges of life’s unfolding journeys.  She particularly revels in those moments during which together we traverse the enriching inner aspects of convening, inviting a deeper, more authentic wisdom to emerge.  She is the “ME” at ASK ME House LLC, and its Creative Energy Officer.  She is a Certified Convening Leader with CPL.

Stephanie Glaros is a bridge builder and empathy evangelist. Her niche is convening authentic conversations across differences, currently for StoryCorps’ One Small Step program. She is the founder of Humans of Minneapolis, an initiative that encourages empathy by listening to everyday people talk about their lives. Her conversations for StoryCorps are archived in the Library of Congress and her Humans of Minneapolis project is housed in Hennepin County Library’s permanent collection. She rejects binary thinking that reduces complex human beings into "us" and "them.”
