How Hidden Fields Are Shaping Your Life and Our World
With Alan Briskin and Mary Gelinas, EdD

Tales from the Field…
Have you ever walked into a room and known immediately that something was off? Maybe your skin tingled or your stomach clenched, maybe you noticed how eyes were averted or chatter was strained. Or maybe the opposite was true and you were walking into a place of safety and comfort, where your breathing came more easily, your heart rate calmed, and your tension melted away.
In this groundbreaking interdisciplinary book, Alan Briskin and Mary V. Gelinas weave together a combined eighty years of experience in social psychology, systems thinking, and contemplative practices to explain how fields influence us physically, emotionally, and intuitively-often without our conscious awareness.
These are the spaces where old ways of being and thinking no longer hold, and the choices we make bring us to the next awareness.
Three years ago…
Alan and Mary brought this question to the 2023 Fall Retreat community: What if we could learn to pay attention to these fields that are operating in and around us, understand their messages, and use them to act more intentionally and compassionately?
Next they invited their many communities (including CPL) to discover the emergent field and collective wisdom that became the book. We are thrilled to welcome them back.
Five Things to Know About Fields
Fields are:
Ever-present. They exist inside and around us.
Unnoticed. They affect us outside of conscious awareness.
Dynamic: They are constantly changing, progressing, and dissipating.
Multi-directional: Fields affect us and we affect them. Multiple overlapping fields generate unlimited variations.
Discernable: They can be known through body sensations, subjective experience, intuition, and trial and error observations.
We live in one interconnected reality of living fields from subatomic, atomic, to cosmic.
What will we do?
Discover how awareness of these dynamic spaces can help foster collaborative relationships, bridge social, political, and religious divides, and effect more constructive, meaningful, and lasting change.
Who is this for?
Friends and followers of the Space is Not Empty exploration.
Change practitioners and leaders who are interested in exploring the inner and outer practices and learnings necessary to navigate the rapid transformation and change of these times.
“This book will make a groundbreaking and vital contribution to the theory and practice of social transformation.”
